According to a study by researchers at the Institute of Haematology at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, and  published in the Medical Journal of Australia, the prevalence of folate deficiency in Australians has significantly reduced since the introduction of mandatory fortification with folic acid of wheat flour used in breadmaking. As an Australian with a growing family, who is a chiropractic health care professional, I backed this wheat supplementation when it first came into public awareness and governmental consideration. With the overuse of our farmlands, I believe that it is essential to supplement many naturally health ingredients such as wheat, oats, and barley. So I am quite gratified by these excellent findings.

It is my opinion that our government here in Australia is at its best when it creates health benefits for its citizens — especially those that are naturally good for we, humans!

The Medical Journal of Australia is a publication of the Australian Medical Association.
